The AOMA recognized Dr. Martin Reiss, DO with the Lifetime Achievement Award, honoring a physician with a six-decade career whose unwavering commitment to quality patient care and advancement of the osteopathic profession has shaped the landscape of medicine in Arizona. Dr. Reiss's role as  a physician, educator, mentor, Board Member, Board President and pioneering leader has left a lasting legacy, for both the osteopathic profession and in the field of psychiatry.

After earning his Bachelor’s degree from New York University in 1957 and his Doctor of Osteopathy from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1961, Dr. Reiss completed a rotating internship at Maine Osteopathic Hospital and began his career in general family practice. His transition to psychiatry in the early 1970s marked the beginning of a distinguished journey that would influence clinical practice, public institutions, and generations of osteopathic physicians. He completed his psychiatry residency with the New York State Department of Mental Health and earned board certification in 1976. 

Dr. Reiss was first appointed to the Board by Governor J. Fife Symington in April of 1996. He served as the Board’s Vice-President and then was elected President of the Board and served until 2006. Dr. Reiss completed two terms with the Board during that time. He was reappointed by Governor Jan Brewer in April of 2013 where he served until  2019. 

As a member of the Arizona Board of Osteopathic Examiners, he helped uphold the high standards that define osteopathic medical practice.
